General Dermatology

Dr. Travis treats children and adults for all conditions of the skin, hair and nails including eczema, acne, psoriasis, rosacea, warts, age spots/brown spots, hair loss, cysts and skin cancers. Since serious complications from skin cancer can be avoided if it is detected and treated early, Dr. Travis encourages all of her patients to have yearly full body skin cancer screenings. If a skin cancer is found and needs removal, Dr. Travis can perform surgery in her office under local anesthesia.

Acne
Acne is the result of plugged pores. Acne lesions include blackheads, whiteheads, pimples and deeper lumps such as cysts or nodules. These lesions can occur on the face, neck, chest, back shoulders and upper arms. Most teenagers suffer from acne at some point during their adolescence. Adults in their 20s, and even 40s, can be affected by acne. Many adults wonder why they are still getting breakouts. Dr. Travis will work with a patient of any age to develop a treatment that is right for their type of acne. This will likely include a combination of prescription medications and over the counter products. Acne can lead to decreased self esteem and embarrassment. Both mild and severe cases of acne can lead to scarring. A good treatment regimen will decrease the chances of scarring, but if this occurs treatments do exist. Treatments for scarring include chemical peels, fillers, lasers and subscision.

Rosacea
If you have persistent facial redness you may have rosacea. This is a chronic condition that typically begins after the age of 30. Patients with rosacea may have frequent blushing or flushing, persistent facial redness, red bumps and pus-filled pimples that resemble acne, and small visible blood vessels. Other signs and symptoms include eye irritation, burning or stinging on the face, and skin thickening. When skin gets thick on the nose it is called rhinophyma. Dr. Travis can prescribe various oral and topical medications to combat the bumps and redness of rosacea, and can remove the visible blood vessels through treatments with lasers and heat devices. She will also talk to you about how to avoid lifestyle and environmental triggers which can flare your rosacea.
