I can’t recommend Dr. James Shea and Upper West Side Dermatology enough. I’ve seen Dr. Shea for both medical and cosmetic dermatology, and what stands out most is how thoughtful and individualized his approach is. He really takes the time to understand what’s bothering you, explain what he recommends, and make sure the goal is always to improve your skin while still looking completely like yourself. He helped me get a damaged skin barrier back under control, and I’ve also seen him for redness that had been bothering me for a long time. After just one laser treatment, I was genuinely surprised by how much calmer and more even my skin looked. Most recently, I went in for facial-slimming Botox. Since I only had the treatment yesterday, I’m still waiting for the full effect, but the appointment itself was fantastic. Dr. Shea was incredibly precise and thoughtful about placement, explained exactly what he was doing and what to expect, and made the whole experience feel effortless. What I especially appreciate is that I never feel like I’m being sold a treatment. His recommendations feel considered, conservative, and specific to what will actually make a difference for me. That level of trust is incredibly important when it comes to your skin and especially anything cosmetic. The entire office is wonderful as well. Everyone was warm, professional, welcoming, and I never felt rushed. If you’re looking for a dermatologist who combines excellent medical care with a really refined aesthetic eye, Dr. Shea is absolutely someone I’d recommend.
